The Los Angeles Mycological Society invites Slow Food Los Angeles members and friends to participate in the 25th Annual LAMS Fair:
When: Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 10:00am until 4:00pm
Where: Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanic Garden, Ayres Hall, 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia
Cost: Admission to the Mushroom Fair is free, but there are charges to enter the Arboretum. Admission to the Arboretum is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (62 and over), $5 for students with ID, and $2.50 for children 5- 12. Children under 5 are admitted free. Arboretum members are admitted free. Parking is free.
Among the events will be cooking demonstrations, events for children, displays of wild mushrooms, a demonstration of growing mushrooms, sales of cultivated mushrooms, educational lectures, and mushroom identification. LAMS is a non-profit group whose purpose is to foster and expand the understanding and appreciation of mycology (that is the study of mushrooms and fungi). They create and sponsor fun mushroom-related events and help people learn about and identify mushrooms they find in the Los Angeles area.
Also note: LAMS has announced two mushroom forays on Saturday, February 7, to gather specimens for display at Sunday’s fair. Information about the forays is available on the LAMS website.
