Big Pick Yields Big Benefits

curtgibbsflickr.pngOn ExperienceLA, Curt Gibbs has shared news of yesterday’s Big Pick event in Chatsworth organized by Rick Nahmias. More than 60 volunteers picked and packed approximately 4 tons of oranges that will be distributed to needy families through SOVA, a program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles. Slow Food Los Angeles is pleased to have been able to help spread the word about Sunday’s event and thanks Slow Food members and friends who took time from their weekends to lend a hand.

Curt’s also posted a selection of photos from the day on his Flickr page.

We’ll share news of similar events as we learn about them. In the meantime, if you wish to volunteer or are a tree owner who would like to have fruit picked and donated as part of the program, contact Rick Nahmias by email at trickstern [at] sbcglobal [dot] net.

Update, 2:25pm: The Big Pick was also covered in the Los Angeles Daily News.
