Farmer and author David Mas Masumoto will be at the Santa Monica Public Library this Wednesday evening to speak about the topics of his latest book, Wisdom of the Last Farmer: Harvesting Legacies from the Land:
When: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 beginning at 7:00pm
Where: MLK Jr. Auditorium of the Santa Monica Public Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica
Cost: Free. Note that seating is limited and available on a first-come basis.
Known for the passion with which he grows peaches, Mas Masumoto weaves together stories of family and farming in his latest book, a work that is part memoir and part life instruction. Copies of Wisdom of the Last Farmer will be available, and a booksigning will follow the main presentation.
And if the presentation and booksigning aren’t tempting enough, Amelia Saltsman, Slow Food member and author of The Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Cookbook, will be contributing to the refreshments provided after the main presentation.
David Mas Masumoto is the award-winning author of Epitaph for a Peach and other books, a popular columnist, a spokesperson for organic farming, a longtime supporter of Slow Food, and a fellow at The Kellogg Foundation. A third-generation farmer, Mas grows certified organic peaches, nectarines, and grapes on his family’s eighty-acre California farm.
