Shouldn’t everyone have access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food?
That’s the question posed by Roots of Change this holiday season. And one way Roots of Change is working to ensure that all Californians enjoy nutritious food is through the California Farmers’ Market Consortium’s Fresh Fund. Contributions to the Fund go directly into the hands of a person participating in CalFresh (food stamps) or WIC (nutrition incentives for women, infants, and children) programs.
Every penny donated will be used to help match the money these participants would spend at a farmers’ market. For example, if a food stamp recipient spends $10 they will receive at least an additional $5 to spend on fresh produce.
The Consortium is currently made up of nine partner organizations that serve the counties of Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Alameda, San Diego, San Mateo, Sonoma and San Francisco. For our members and friends in the Los Angeles area, your donation can be earmarked for local participating organizations Hunger Action Los Angeles and Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA). If you don’t wish to specify an organization, your donation will be distributed across the participating organizations.
This is truly an effort where every dollar counts. If your budget permits, please consider participating in the program. Donations can be made online via the dedicated page on the Roots of Change site.
