KBBQ w/ Soju

It’s difficult to find inspiration at times. We’re sandwiched between holidays of over-consumption and future-debt. It’s cold season during an election year and my inspiration got the wind kicked out of it. So, this email started me thinking; where do I go for inspiration? Last time I felt this way I went for a soak in a hot mugwort bath at a Korean spa. Around the corner from there I picked up a rotisserie chicken dinner, wood-fired, Peruvian-style w/ aji verde then ate with my hands. Spirits were lifted and nothing was overpriced (Pollo For The Soul).

The food in this city feeds my heart and teaches me about life in other countries. It’s a beautiful mosaic of hand-formed masa, bubbling banchan, volcanic dumplings and kebab. The roots of this city are nurtured by immigrants, a lot of them non-European, who brought along their food to share. Our landscape provides a sprawling quilt of different cultures to stay warm under when it’s cold out. When the internet becomes terrifying and the radio makes me want to cry I know there’s a taco stand around the corner to help me feel human again. Food is a beautiful way to relate to other cultures and this city is great at that.
