Defining “Organic”

The “organic” label is being used increasingly on food products, but there is much disagreement about what it means. Depending on the context and the parties involved in the discussion, “organic” can be a rigorous standard, or one that doesn’t seem much different from other forms of cultivation.
An article in the September 2006 Non-Toxic Times Newsletter, produced by Seventh Generation, highlights these differences and offers several links to other sources of information, including an article from the Dallas Morning News about the enforcement of current standards.
